Cielito Lindo can be roughly translated to "lovely sweet one". It is also known simply as the "Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay song". It was popularized in 1882 by Mexican author Quirino Mendoza y Cortez and has become the unofficial anthem of Mexico. Song may be a reference to the Sierra Morena Mountains of Spain or the similarly named Sierra Morones the Mexican State of Zacatecas.
